Abbreviated MRI/MRCP Protocol

Background

If a full-length MRI Abdomen / MRCP cannot be performed due to the patient’s clinical condition, the following sequences can be obtained instead of the full-length study. Note that this protocol should only be used if approved by the radiologist at the time of scanning.

Pulse Sequences

1.     BFFE surveys

2.     Ax SS TSE

3.     Radial Slabs SS TSE

4.     At this point, the technologist should send images over to iSite and have the radiologist check images to see which plane of radial slabs should be used to obtain a 1 minute MRCP cine (see step #7). While calling, the technologist can proceed with the remainder of the study as detailed below.

5.     3D MRCP

6.     Axial T1 3D Fat Sat GRE (For this sequence, SENSE may be turned off if the patient is unable to breath hold. Use 2-3 averages.)

7.     MRCP cine using plane selected from radial slabs (every 10 seconds for 1 minute) - see step #4.
